PROMOTIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
1. ELIGIBILITY.
To be eligible for this Contest, an Entrant must:
- a) not be an Employee or Council member of Clearwater County (the “County”), or an Employee of The Mountaineer Publishing Co. Ltd. (The Mountaineer), or a household member and/or the immediate family of any of the above.
- i ) For the purposes of these Contest rules, “immediate family” means husband, wife, spouse, mother, father, brother, sister, son and daughter, whether or not they reside in the same household.
- b) be a legal resident of Canada
2. CONTEST PERIOD.
Entries to the Contest will be accepted beginning February 1, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., and will be accepted until March 3, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. Deadline Extended – March 10th, 5:00 pm
3. HOW TO ENTER:
Enter online here at clearwatercountyphotocontest.ca. Each entrant must complete and sign the online Photography Contest Entry form. By making a submission the entrant agrees to be bound by all contest rules and regulations contained herein. Entrants may submit as many photographs as they wish. Each photo must include the following information: Photographer’s name, description (eg.: location and identification of event, individuals, flora, fauna etc.) and contest category.
All entries must be received by The Mountaineer Publishing Co. Ltd. no later than March 3, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. to be considered for the Contest. Deadline Extended – March 10th, 5:00 pm
4. PHOTOGRAPH REQUIREMENTS.
Entries must be uploaded in high resolution digital form here at clearwatercountyphotocontest.ca. All photographs must be taken within Clearwater County, the Town of Rocky Mountain House or the Village of Caroline. The location where the photograph was taken shall be indicated on the Contest Entry Form. All photographs submitted to the Contest shall have been taken by the Entrant themselves, and the Entrant shall hold all corresponding intellectual property rights to the photograph at the time of entry. Compositional changes to digital files are not acceptable and will be disqualified; tonal or colour cast corrections are acceptable. Photos must be at least 8 Megapixels (MP) in Quality and at least 700 KB in size to a maximum of 8 MB in size.
5. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.
Upon submitting a photograph to the Contest, that photograph shall become the property of Clearwater County and/or The Mountaineer Publishing Co. Ltd.(hereinafter referred to as “the Organizers”) and will not be returned to the Entrant. For the consideration of participating in the Contest, the Entrant grants the Organizers all copyright, moral rights, and/or any other intellectual property rights in the submitted photograph(s).
6. USE OF SUBMISSIONS.
All submissions to the Contest may be used as the Organizers see fit, which may include (but is not limited to):
- a) Use on the Clearwater County website;
- b) Use in the David Thompson Country visitors guide, published by The Mountaineer
- c) Use in promotional materials for the County;
- d) Use in any other materials published by, or on behalf of, the County;
- e) Use by the Town of Rocky Mountain House, the Village of Caroline, and/or David Thompson Country Tourism in any manner permitted by the County.
7. DISCRETION IN USE
The Organizers shall have no obligation to use any submission to the Contest in any means, and shall retain complete discretion over the use of any submission to the Contest.
8. PHOTOGRAPHER CREDIT
The Organizers may use and/or announce the name(s) of the Contest winners for promotional purposes, and/or to provide credit to the photographer when submissions are used in accordance with Article 6. The Organizers are not obligated to provide credit to the Entrant/photographer in any circumstance and may do so purely at their own discretion.
9. COMPENSATION
The Organizers shall at no time be required or obligated to compensate or remunerate any Entrant for use of their photograph(s)/submission(s).
10. CONSENT
I have the consent of any easily identifiable person(s) appearing in the photo(s) I have entered in this contest.
11. ENTRY FORM
No photograph submission shall be entered in the Contest or considered for prizes unless it is submitted online through here at clearwatercountyphotocontest.ca. Entrants must create an online account and submit each photo using the Contest Entry Form.
12. JUDGING OF SUBMISSIONS.
All submitted entries will be judged by a panel appointed by the Organizers. Submissions will be placed in one of the following Categories:
Categories
1. Adrenaline and Adventure Summer:
With so much to do in our area, there are activities to appeal to every sensibility. What gets your heart pumping when you are out and about in Clearwater County? We want you to send us your action shots that stir the blood and satisfy that craving for adventure. Pictures should demonstrate appropriate safety wear/gear like helmets or life jackets.
2. Adrenaline and Adventure Winter:
With so much to do in our area, there are activities to appeal to every sensibility. What gets your heart pumping when you are out and about in Clearwater County? We want you to send us your action shots that stir the blood and satisfy that craving for adventure. Pictures should demonstrate appropriate safety wear/gear.
3. Groups / Special Events:
With a wide variety of special events throughout the year and numerous clubs, groups and organizations to join, there is always something happening in Clearwater County. Capture that special feeling at anything from a Canada Day celebration, a local recreation club get together, to a service group giving back to their community.
4. Off the Beaten Path:
Everyone has their own favourite hidden gem. Maybe it’s a little known lake in the woods or a high mountain stream. Whatever it may be, share a photo of your own special off the track spot. We’re looking for photos that show the best our County has to offer.
5. Farming:
The agricultural lifestyle is an important part of life in Clearwater County. Send us your images that represent or evoke the unique spirit and character of farm life.
6. Wildlife and Forces of Nature:
Capture the beauty of our area’s abundant wildlife, or the power of the elements at work. Clearwater County offers unlimited opportunities for the wildlife photographer. The weather in Clearwater County can range from a colour-drenched sunset on a tranquil summer evening to the fury and raw power of a wind storm blowing across the land.
7. People at Work:
Clearwater County is a place to work and play. Business in action is the lifeblood of our community – show us yours!
8. Camping Activities:
Sitting around the campfire with friends, chopping wood, setting up the tent or trailer, watching the sunrise over a quiet cup of coffee. How do you take time to relax in our great outdoors?
Received submissions that do not specify a category will be placed in a category as determined by the Organizers.
The Organizers and the Contest judges retain discretion to award prizes as they see fit, and may award prizes even where the abovementioned criteria are not wholly adhered to. The decisions of the County and the Contest judges are final, and no appeals thereto shall be considered.
13. PRIZES.
Prizes will be awarded as follows:
A cash prize in the amount of $400.00 will be awarded to the first place photograph in each category, as determined by the panel of judges;
A cash prize in the amount of $300.00 will be awarded to the second place photograph in each category, as determined by the panel of judges;
A cash prize in the amount of $200.00 will be awarded to the third place photograph in each category, as determined by the panel of judges;
A cash prize in the amount of $100.00 will be awarded to the runner-up photograph in each category, as determined by the panel of judges;
All prizes shall be accepted as awarded.
14. DISQUALIFICATION.
The Organizers and/or the Contest judges hold the discretion to disqualify (without compensation payable to the entrant) any entry that does not comply with the Contest Requirements, or violates the standard of Conduct prescribed in Article 16 of these Rules.
15. INDEMNIFICATION.
By entering the Contest, the Entrant shall release and indemnify the Organizers from any liability resulting in any loss, injury or damage arising from the Contest or its prizes to the Entrant or any third party.
16. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY.
The Organizers assume no responsibility or liability for lost, late, misdirected or incomplete entries, notifications, responses, replies or any release. The Organizers are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information. Entrant assumes liability for injuries caused or claimed to be caused by participating in the Contest, or by the acceptance, possession, use of, or failure to receive any prize.
17. CONDUCT.
By entering this Contest, the Entrant agrees to be bound by these Contest Rules, which are posted here clearwatercountyphotocontest.ca/rules and available at The Mountaineer office. The Entrant further agrees to be bound by the decisions of the Organizers, which shall be final and binding in all respects. The Organizers reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant found to be: (a) violating Contest Rules; (b) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of Contest; and/or (c) acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person.
18. PRIVACY / USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION.
The Entrant grants the Organizers the right to: (a) use his or her personal information for the purpose of administering the Contest; (b) use his or her name, photograph, likeness, voice, prize information and/or biographical information for publicity and promotional purposes without further compensation unless prohibited by law; and (c) use his or her name and his or her respective city and province of residence in connection with any promotional advertisement or notification. Personal information will not be provided to any third party other than as provided for in these Contest Rules. The Organizers and any third party agents of the Organizers will use personal information only for purposes related to this Contest and will be required to protect all personal information in a manner that is consistent with any applicable legislation.
19. TERMINATION.
The Organizers reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to cancel, amend, modify or terminate all or any portion of this Contest at any time for any reason without prior notice.
20. LAW.
These are official Contest Rules. This Contest is subject to applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations. These Contest Rules are subject to change without notice in order to comply with any applicable federal, provincial or municipal laws or the policy of any other entity having jurisdiction over The Organizers.
